This
dramatic home was designed by award winning architect Richard
Rhydes to take advantage of stunning sunrise views across the
Puget Sound from Mt. Baker to Mt. Rainier. The home is on 5
sloping acres of high bank east facing waterfront, heavily wooded
at the road for total privacy. Three decks provide ample sitting
platforms with views in every direction.
The owners were very active in the construction
process, providing our crew with fresh coffee and homemade
cookies (very important).
Along with
innumerable more mundane tasks, homeowners Mark and
Ann spent many hours high on the scaffolding sanding and finishing the beams.
A beautiful
upstairs deck off the master bedroom provides a panoramic sunrise for
these early risers.
Natural cross ventilation was designed into the
house to eliminate the need for air conditioning.
New energy conservation
standards were used - the principal heat source for the house is a high efficiency
oil fired in-floor heating system. Custom cabinets were built and installed by
our best local craftsman, Neil Anthony of Coastline Woodworking, Coupeville.
The interior trim and millwork was painted a beautiful soft white by Brushworks
N.W. to a flawless finish. Overall, a beautiful home well tailored to the site
and to the owners' taste ensures a happy ending for this builder of fine custom
homes!
