A busy University Dean and his
active wife envisioned this home as a retreat ~ eventually
a permanent home where they plan to age in place.
An inveterate outdoorsman, hiker, and gardener, Howard
wanted a private lodge that
would also prove to be a showcase for the family'smuch
loved and beautiful antiques.
Warmth, classic elegance,
energy efficiency, and a high level of craftsmanship were of
utmost importance. The construction and design elements chosen
were stone, copper, and wood to capture
the tones of the forest, and compliment the extensive native gardens now being
developed. The simple and beautiful crafting of the beams and
structural elements of the home add to the warmth and timeless
atmosphere.
The floor plan
flows through generous rooms (but not too large) with a focus
on
the
central
living room and the grand stone fireplace. The formal dining room provides
ample space for entertaining and family holidays.
The house is an energy efficient one-level
design with bedrooms on opposite ends of the home for privacy
and to accommodate visits from friends, family and grandchildren
alike.
The Owners: Quiet vision,
and love of the land.
The Builder: Love and skill of craftsmanship,
superb crews and commitment to excellence.
